Arno Babajanian: Piano Trio in F-sharp minor (1952);
Mel Bonis: Soir, Op. 192
; Franz Schubert: Piano Trio No. 1 in B-flat major, D 898.
Duration: approx. 85 minutes.
Tickets: CHF 0-40.
The three movements of Arno Babajanian's Piano Trio, enriched with folkloric elements, are so vividly evocative and expressive that a deliberate, fairytale-like narrative style is undeniable – from the mystical beginning of the later sonically rich first movement, through the enchantingly floating Andante, to the wild dance of the finale in irregular 5/8 time.
Mel Bonis' character piece Soir, with its delicate harmonies, creates a characteristic evening atmosphere that further stimulates our fairytale imagination and prepares us through the brief reflection on Franz Schubert's monumental Trio in B-flat major.
