In 1815, the jurist, composer, and writer (as well as Beethoven critic) E.T.A. Hoffmann characterized the key of E-flat major as follows: “Follow him! – follow him! – Green is his garment like the dark forest – sweet horn sound his yearning word! – Do you hear it rustling behind the bushes? Do you hear it resounding? Horn sound, full of joy and melancholy – It is he – up! To meet him!”
Our Salon 2026 is dedicated to two E-flat major centaurs of music history: Mendelssohn’s Octet and Beethoven’s Third Symphony.
The summit meeting travels through three cantons – just as Mendelssohn traveled through Switzerland.
