Alban Berg dedicated his Violin Concerto “To the memory of an angel,” namely Alma Mahler’s daughter Manon. Together with Teodor Currentzis and the Utopia Orchestra, the exceptional violinist Vilde Frang will bring this angelic song to life. Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 is decidedly earthly: from sounds of nature to parodic funeral marches to the “titanic” triumph of the nameless hero.
