From July 7 to 12, 2026, La Chaux-de-Fonds will host the first edition of the La Chaux-de-Fonds Music Festival, a new event dedicated to classical music in the heart of the Jura Arc.
The initiator of this project is the international pianist Nelson Goerner, the festival's artistic director. Accustomed to the great stages and festivals of Europe, he asked himself why there was no summer festival in a hall with such renowned acoustics as the Salle de musique de La Chaux-de-Fonds. Deeply connected to the city and this venue, which he considers one of the most remarkable in the world, both architecturally and acoustically, he wanted to create a festival of excellence with international appeal.
In collaboration with the Société de Musique de La Chaux-de-Fonds – which has been organizing a concert season for over 130 years – a new association was formed with the aim of permanently establishing this festival at the beginning of summer within the exceptional setting of the Salle de Musique.
This inaugural edition addresses the lack of a summer classical music festival in the region and aims to strengthen the city's cultural influence far beyond regional and national borders. Supported by the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds, this initiative marks a new step in the city's cultural resurgence.

"A Time for Pause"
In La Chaux-de-Fonds, time is not an abstraction: it shapes the city's history, architecture, and identity. The festival builds upon this tradition by offering a deliberately chosen musical framework.
For six days, the city becomes a stage for suspended time:
an invitation to slow down, listen attentively, and truly experience the moment.
The festival's visual identity is based on the figure of the hourglass, alluding to the local clockmaking and timekeeping tradition: a gift of time, limited and precious.
The program reflects this philosophy: established artists and emerging talents meet in a spirit of sharing and the highest artistic standards.
