Star oboist Albrecht Mayer is not a first-time visitor to the Bernese Oberland – and promises once again a highlight of the Bach Weeks when he, together with Liisa Randalu, viola and Vital Julian Frey, harpsichord, invites the audience to perform, among other works, trio sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach. These were originally composed for solo organ and sound particularly captivating here with the different colors of the three instruments. The number three is also reflected in the contemporary solo works that will alternate with Bach's music: In addition to a viola solo by Estonian composer Tõnu Kõrvits, dedicated to Liisa Randalu, we can expect two world premieres for harpsichord and oboe, respectively. Their composer is Gordon Hamilton, who was celebrated at last year's Bach Festival.
