No film has captured Mozart's music with such sensuality as Miloš Forman's 1984 masterpiece "Amadeus," which won eight Oscars. From opulent balls and exhilarating carriage rides to manuscripts brought to life in the quiet of a private chamber and musical ecstasy on the grand opera stage, "Amadeus" depicts life in all its fullness – and ultimately, the shattering death of the musical genius. Mozart's moving story is told in retrospect from the perspective of the composer Antonio Salieri, who was crushed by his rival's genius and consequently wrestled with God at the end of his life. In their signature style, the City Light Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Kevin Griffiths, performs Mozart's works live, including the dramatically charged Symphony No. 25 in G minor and the poignant slow movement of the "Gran Partita," played by a wind ensemble. The Zurich Sing-Akademie also guarantees excellence in excerpts from choral works such as Mozart's Mass in C minor or the Requiem.
